SO WHAT DO WE GET UP TO WITH OUR TACKLE -Fishing Tackle that is!!
The club constitution ensures that we have to provide a balance of coarse angling to cater for both the Pleasure, Match and Carp/Specimen anglers on our 2 waters and this is what we try to do.
Our stocking policy ensures that not only do we restock with large fish(carp to 18lb have been stocked) but we also stock with smaller silvers as well i.e. roach, bream etc. This should ensure that everyone is happy but fishermen being fishermen, they rarely are. We dont believe in stocking fish at grossly artifical weights either. It's better for fish to grow to 30lb+ than be stocked at 30lb+. If they're growing, they're obviously happy with the environment we provide for them -and that goes for silvers as well as carp, with roach caught over 2lb and carp touching 30lb from the Fendrod lake and carp to 23lb from the Half Round Ponds.
For the match angler we run a series of mini-opens which tie-in with matches run by other fishing organisations. And of course there's the Swansea Senior Open which is the biggest match of the year and has in the past attracted up to 60 competitors.
For the carp or specimen anglers we've provided through grant schemes a number of custom-built platforms around the Fendrod Lake that while being built as father & son platforms ,are just the right size for a bivvy(funnily enough!!). Of course specimen anglers like specimen fish and 2007 saw the Fendrod Lake's 1st 30lb carp make an appearance. We also lay on two 24hr carp matches during the season where the whole Fendrod lake is closed to non-competitors. The 24hr match in Sept 06 was a cracker with the top 3 weights all in excess of 85lb!
The club also has a coaching team as we believe firmly that a club has no future unless you get the kids involved. We run a 12wk course throughout the summer on saturday mornings centred on the Half Round Ponds, while also getting involved in coaching interested groups(schools, youth clubs etc) through our links with the Environment Agency.
Now unfortunately we have to charge you for the pleasure(and that's what we hope you find it) of fishing our waters. Our prices are controlled by the City & County of Swansea who we lease our waters from and with whom we have a good relationship in promoting the sport of coarse angling in the Swansea area.
Prices are reviewed each April and are displayed below. Please note that any comments surrounding either the price or price structure should be addressed to the Local Authority who as mentioned above control both pricing and structure of all leisure activities under their remit. You should not try to make your point either with the Club officials or staff at Mainwarings Tackle as they are not involved with setting either price or class of permits/tickets.
